Welcome to the Site!
Music with Melissa was founded by Music Educator Melissa Effler; with a dream to create a studio where pianists of all ages could be challenged reach their full potential. Music with Melissa is much more than just private lessons weekly. Students have opportunities to perform in recitals, participate in MTAC, take part in practice challenges to win prizes, and much more. In it’s years of existence, Music with Melissa has grown in size and success! Today, the studio is known by following this formula:
Great Teaching + Committed Students + Supportive Parents = Great results!

Melissa began formal piano lessons when she was 8 years old after her parents noticed her tinkering around on the family piano. She used to love to try to play the songs she learned at school. She took lessons through the end of her senior year in high school from an amazing piano teacher, going to her home for weekly lessons. Even before she graduated high school, Melissa knew she wanted to have a career in music. She also developed a love for choral music as she accompanied and sang in choir throughout high school. During Melissa’s senior year in high school, she began giving piano lessons in a studio and privately.
Melissa ventured on to college as a music major and graduated from Cal State University Northridge with a BA in Music Education. While studying at CSUN, she studied piano with the chair of the music department. Throughout college, Melissa continued teaching piano and has now been teaching over ten years.
*With a strong desire to teach to her full potential, Melissa loves to find fresh new ways to motivate students to love music. She is an active member of the East San Fernando branch of the Music Teacher’s Association of California (MTAC). MTAC offers a yearly Certificate of Merit (CM) program where Melissa has taken her students to participate in. With much pride and joy in Melissa’s heart for her students, she’s happy to say that each and every one of her students have passed their CM evaluation.*
In Melissa’s free time, she is an active member in her local church where she is a youth leader and plays keyboard in the worship team. She also loves to spend time with her husband, try out new recipes, exercise, write music, and do projects around the house.
Melissa is the proud writer of a musician's blog! She frequently posts helpful tools and resources for her own students or any pianist who can use them.
